2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA Launched In India From INR 42.10 Lakh

German luxury car manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz has finally unveiled the new 2021 GLA in India. Prices for the GLA start from INR 42.10 Lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base variant and go up to INR 57.28 Lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the top-spec AMG 35 variant. The new GLA will now take on the popular BMW X1, Volvo XC40 and the upcoming Audi Q3 in the luxury compact SUV segment in India.

Talking about the car, the new GLA is now the eighth model in Mercedes’ compact car generation and also the only entry-level SUV in the brand’s big lineup. The newer version is now 10 centimetres taller than its predecessor and almost 1.5 centimetres shorter in length. The car now gets traditional off-road design features like a redesigned front section, short overhangs at the front and rear, and protective cladding all-round.

In terms of interior features, the new GLA is quite similar to the other Mercedes models, as it features the brand’s connected dashboard set-up that includes a set of 2 7.0-inch screens as standard, with an optional 10.3-inch widescreen set-up. These displays are operated via Mercedes’ MBUX operating system, which supports both, touchpad and voice control. The car also gets a coloured head-up display along with a bunch of advanced new features.

Mechanically, the base variant of the GLA is powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that can produce over 163 HP and 250 Nm of peak torque. This engine is then paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, that helps propel the car from 0-100 kmph in 8.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 210 kmph. The top-spec AMG variant gets a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that churns out around 306 HP and 400 Nm of peak torque while being paired to a 9-speed AMG Speedshift transmission that sends power to all the 4 wheels via the 4Matic AWD system.

The GLA is also available in 2 diesel variants which are powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that produces over 190 HP and 400 Nm of peak torque while being paired to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. 4Matic is also available in the higher diesel trim.
